repent alone.”

“Nonsense. I care about you. It breaks my heart to see you hurt,” she suggested coyly before giving
him a gentle hug and wiping the sweat off his brow.

“I’m sorry, all right? I’ll tell Caesar tomorrow that I can’t have dinner alone with him. Instead, I’ll bring
you along the next time we meet. How about that?”

As the anger within him eased, Cedrick let out a smug snort. “I have no choice but to forgive you then.
Don’t repeat your mistake again.”

“Got it. I promise there won’t be a next time. Now, get back on your feet.”

Gwendolyn helped him up attentively and led him back to their bed. There, she pulled up his pant legs
to examine his knees.

Due to the discomfort of the floor, Cedrick’s knees were swollen. Nonetheless, he was lucky to get
away without any visible bruises at all.

Gwendolyn proceeded to rub the swelling and applied some anti-inflammatory cream to prevent
bruises to form the next day.

“I can’t believe how stubborn you are. Why do you insist on making yourself suffer?”

At the end of her sentence, she let out a sigh. “Does it hurt?”

“My heart is the one that’s hurting more!” Cedrick wore an aggrieved expression as he looked at her.



With her heart melted by how pitiful he looked, Gwendolyn planted a kiss on his lips and coaxed, “In
that case, I’ll make it up to you tonight. How about that?”

“We have to be careful during the first trimester. Since I can’t sleep with you, how are you going to
make it up to me?”

A mischievous glint flashed across Gwendolyn’s eyes as she replied in an alluring tone, “The fact that
you can’t have me doesn’t mean that I can’t have you. I can still use this!”

Gwendolyn extended her fair hand in front of him.

someone to check the records of her prison visits.”

Cedrick shook his head. “She’s probably not lying. High-ranking military officers have the authority to
make secret visits in prison. Such visits aren’t recorded anywhere. That said, the information she
provided helps us narrow down the scope of our investigation, as only five people in the entire nation
have such authority.”

While listening intently, Gwendolyn deliberated on the matter.

Thereafter, Cedrick served Gwendolyn some food before adding, “I’ll explain while you eat.”

“Okay.”

“These five include Craig, Asher, Callum, Sylas, and myself. Among us, Sylas hasn’t returned to
Salinsburgh due to his mission at the border. So, we can definitely rule him out. As for myself and
Asher, neither of us will do anything to harm you. That’s the reason why I’ve ordered Nico to keep an
eye on Craig and Callum. I believe we’ll have our answer soon.”
