Chapter 1722 What Does your So-called Care Mean?

Lucas read Yasmeen’s message, and he was a little dumbfounded.

She claimed that she was behaving well all those years by his side?

As expected, she was still the Yasmeen he knew!

was so mesmerising that all of the scenery around him paled in comparison.

He was handsome, and he knew this for a fact.

He had inherited Samuel’s good looks, and he also had Nicole’s icy cold demeanor. It was just that all
along, he didn’t think that his good features would bestow upon him any advantage or pride, but at this
moment, he suddenly felt a consolation in his heart.

This Yasmeen was someone who went after appearances!

However, his smile didn’t persist. Upon recalling the fact about that girl being hurt by him, Lucas
immediately felt something heavy in her heart.

At this moment, Yasmeen was so furious that she was going to blame this on him, but he couldn’t
spare any time to entertain her. That girl was just getting discharged from the Intensive Care Unit, and
she was in the same hospital as him too. No matter what, he had to go visit her.

When he thought of this, Lucas got up to head to that girl’s ward.

There was a breathing machine being plugged on to her, and a middle-aged woman was just beside
her. Due to lengthy exposure to sunlight doing the farm works, this middle-aged woman had dark skin.
This woman was sobbing silently beside the girl.



He heard that the father of this girl had long passed away in a car accident when she was still a baby. It
was this mother who had raised her with much difficulty, but now that such an unwarranted disaster
had fallen on her daughter, which practically ruined her life from now on…

A trace of agony flashed by in Lucas’ eyes.

He knocked on the door, and the woman opened it. She seemed a little caught off guard when she saw
Lucas.

“You are…”

“I’m sorry, Lady, I am the sniper who was tasked with the responsibility to protect the hostage, I…”

Before Lucas could finish, a loud slap rang in his ears. The woman had slapped him on his cheeks, and
she was so angry that her body was shaking non-stop.

“You still dare to show your face? You have caused my daughter to be in such a state, and you still
have the nerve to come! How can you be a sniper and be sent on a mission when you don’t have good
skills? This is a human life we are talking about here! Do you know that my daughter can’t give birth
anymore in the future? Do you know how cruel does that sound for a girl?”

The woman was shaking uncontrollably.

Lucas couldn’t make out what she was trying to say as he couldn’t follow her talking speed, but he
knew for a fact that she wouldn’t be complimenting him. For a mother who lived side by side with her
daughter, what had happened was even more cruel than taking her life.

“I’m sorry.”

Lucas lowered his head while he felt his cheeks stinging. He knew that his cheeks were beginning to
swell, but what else could he do?



Would killing him bring back what was lost?

“I will take care of her!”

“You’re going to take care of her? Who are you to take care of my daughter? Do you think you’re that
great just because you’re loaded with money? Do you think the lives of the poor could be measured
using money? Why don’t you just drop dead? Why didn’t the kidnappers just kill you at that time?”

The woman was so angry that she was starting to throw her fists and legs at him.

It was way easier for Lucas to dodge her, but he didn’t do that.

He was indeed indebted to this girl and this family!

The woman continued to bash Lucas like crazy, which was coincidentally saw by Yasmeen who had
just arrived.

Yasmeen immediately felt a pain in her heart when she saw the man she loved getting beaten by a
mad woman.

That woman was even scratching Lucas’ face, which left a few bloody marks. Yasmeen was upset and
furious upon seeing that.

“What are you doing?”

Yasmeen initially wanted to push this woman away, but when she thought about the person staying in
this house, she retracted her hands at the last moment and instead throw herself in front of Lucas. She
exposed her back to that woman.

“You only know that she has accidentally hurt your daughter, but you never know about his heroics in
saving countless lives in the past. Do you think that he should be condemned just because of a single



mistake? He’s a man, not a god!”

Yasmeen’s eyes were stinging with tears.

The man he was hugging and protecting had such eye-catching and staggering bloody scratch marks
on his cheeks, and they were like knives which were poking at her.

Lucas never deserved this in the first place.

He could complete that mission perfectly!

It was all because of her!

Yasmeen felt very sorry in her heart.

The woman was still throwing her fists, and she was a little caught off guard when Yasmeen appeared
out of nowhere. When she heard what Yasmeen had to say, the woman broke down in tears.

“He has saved so many lives, but why wasn’t my daughter’s one of them? Why did he have to make a
mistake when it came to my daughter? My daughter doesn’t owe him anything!”

Lucas instantly understood her words.

The weight in his heart got even heavier.

She was right.

As a sniper tasked with saving lives, there was no room for error.

Her life was in the balance back then!

It was a human life!



Lucas could feel Yasmeen’s rage and her desire to protect him.

This woman had claimed that she was going to pull off his pants and beat him into oblivion, yet why
was she shielding him now?

Lucas shot a complicated gaze at Yasmeen and said in a low voice, “Get away! Let her blow some
steam.”

“I don’t want to! There are many ways for her to release her emotions, so why did she have to choose
this method? If she wants to beat someone, she can beat me!”

Yasmeen was really scared that Lucas would pry her away, so she tightened her grip on him.

Her chest was soft and voluminous, and at this moment it was pressing against Lucas’ chest, which for
a moment left him breathless.

This woman…

“Let go!”

Lucas’ voice was cold, yet there were some cracks in it too.

“I will not!”

Yasmeen could be the most stubborn person in the world if she wanted to, much more than Lucas.

The woman saw their interaction and felt even more agonized.

Her daughter was abandoned by a boyfriend after this incident, yet this Lucas and her girlfriend still had
the nerve to show their lovely side in front of her. Did they do this to provoke her daughter?



“You guys…”

“Cough cough!”

The girl on the bed suddenly began coughing.

The woman hastily ran towards her.

“Penny, how are you feeling? Do you feel any discomfort?”

The girl called Penny opened her eyes and immediately saw Lucas’ handsome face, and although
there were scratch marks because of her mother, it was enough for her heart to start racing.

This man was so handsome!

And from his body, she could feel that he was an aloof and distant person who would reject all things,
yet at the same time he was gentle beneath his facade.

She looked at Lucas’ eyes and saw that he had given his gentleness to Yasmeen, and it made her feel
jealous all of a sudden.

Her mother told her that her womb was damaged, and she could no longer bear any child. Her
boyfriend had parted ways with her because of this, and that man didn’t even tell her to her face when
she woke up. He simply came by and dropped in a word to her mother.

She was discarded just like that.

Initially, Penny felt very resentful in her heart, but upon seeing Lucas, she suddenly felt all her hatred
melt away.

They always said that god would open a window for you if one of the existing ones closed up.



Lucas was probably god’s way of showing her a new window.

Penny coughed slightly and stared at Lucas and Yasmeen. She suddenly said, “Are you the one who
has hurt me?”

“Yes!”

Lucas didn’t avoid facing reality as he stared straight at Penny. He wanted to step forward, but he was
stopped by Yasmeen pulling his arm.

This scene somehow riled up Penny, and her eyes froze as she said in a hoarse voice, “You told my
mum that you are going to take care of me? How are you going to do that? I have perfectly fine limbs,
and I look like a perfectly fine person, it’s just that no one would marry me anymore because I can’t
give birth to a child. What does your so-called ‘taking care’ means? Are you going to marry me?”

When she said that, both Lucas and Yasmeen were stunned speechless for a while.
